Cardiovascular (heart) disease (CVD) is the leading cause of premature death and disability in England.

Our ambition is to increase the detection and treatment of high-risk conditions such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol and atrial fibrillation (a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate), to reduce the number of strokes and heart attacks in Gloucestershire.

Early detection and treatment of CVD can help patients to live longer, healthier lives. GP surgeries and Community Pharmacies have access to tools that can identify high-risk conditions that could lead to CVD.

If you are worried about the health of your heart, please contact your GP Surgery.

Your GP may refer you to specialists in heart care, the cardiology team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

After heart surgery or a heart attack,  the cardiac rehabilitation team at Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust will support you during your recovery with things like exercise, education and self-care.

Patients with suspected heart failure may be referred to the heart failure team.
