In the last One Gloucestershire briefing in Spring 2025 we shared that waits of more than 52 weeks had been cut by more than two thirds.

We are pleased to confirm that at the end of the 2024/25 financial year, there were just under 250 people waiting more than 52 weeks, a 90% reduction on the number reported in March 2024.

In June 2025, there were 147 people in Gloucestershire waiting over 52 weeks. Work is underway to ensure these patients are able to be treated as soon as possible, with 80% of the patients waiting longest at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a date booked for their treatment.

Gloucestershire Hospitals Foundation Trust has made big progress in reducing their waiting list by working more efficiently on planned treatments. We have also increased capacity in the independent sector for the treatment of NHS patients, particularly in orthopaedics, ENT, dermatology and gynaecology.

The NHS in Gloucestershire continues to work hard to make sure people are treated according to their clinical need, with the elective care hub checking in with patients while they wait in case things have changed. We have also been transforming our approach to managing outpatients, helping us to work more efficiently and get more done, making use of a new digital portal which allows people to manage their own appointments and access improved communication with their care team.
