Building work on a brand new £5m GP surgery in Tetbury got underway on 14 November 2025 with a traditional turf cutting celebration to mark the start of construction.

The new surgery will be built on land west of Worwell Farm and will provide services to over 10,000 patients. It will replace the existing Phoenix Tetbury surgery.

The new GP surgery will offer a range of modern facilities designed to enhance patient care and convenience. A total of 16 clinical consulting rooms will ensure a higher number of patient consultations and treatments, helping to reduce waiting times and improve the overall patient experience.

For those driving to the surgery, there will be 56 car parking spaces available.

Dr Angus McMyn, GP Partner at Phoenix Health Group, said:

“We are really pleased that work on our new surgery at Worwell Farm is finally getting underway and are very much looking forward to watching the building take shape over the coming months.

We have been working hard with our development partner Stonewood Homes Ltd to construct an attractive, modern, environmentally friendly building that is accessible to our patients and creates positive impacts on the surrounding natural environment.”

The practice has outgrown its current surgery building and the new premises will mean that the practice team can expand and improve the range of services they provide to meet the needs of the growing local population.

The extra space in the new premises will be used for additional consulting and treatment rooms which will allow a wider range of healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, physiotherapists, social prescribers, GP assistants and mental health practitioners, to support and treat patients in ways that best meet their individual needs.

Modern reception and waiting areas will be more comfortable for patients and staff alike, with better levels of security, areas for privacy and good access for people with disabilities or mobility issues.

The practice is also looking forward to being able to offer training and educational updates to staff.

Helen Goodey, Director of Primary Care and Place at NHS Gloucestershire, said:

“Plans for a new GP surgery in Tetbury have been a key priority for NHS Gloucestershire since 2016 and it has been particularly challenging to identify a suitable and affordable site.

We have been working closely with Phoenix Health Group over the years to understand their specific proposals and are delighted that building work at Worwell Farm is starting.

Spanning 1,000 square meters and featuring a contemporary architectural style, the new GP surgery will provide a comfortable, efficient and eco-friendly space for patients to receive high-quality medical care.”

The practice, Stonewood and Assura have been working with specialist healthcare consultants Osmond Tricks on the design and management of the development, which will be constructed by Melhuish & Saunders.

Ashley Seymour, Development Director at Assura, said:

“We are delighted to be playing a part in taking this much needed development forward and excited to be breaking ground at the start of the construction. Working closely with the Phoenix Health Group and NHS Gloucestershire we know what a difference this new surgery is going to make for patients and staff. We are looking forward to continuing to work partnership as the build progresses.”

James Petherick, Land and Planning Director at Stonewood Homes Ltd, said:

“We are extremely pleased to commence work on this important new infrastructure project for the town. A huge amount of work has gone into reaching this milestone and I would like to thank the Phoenix Health Group, Assura and NHS Gloucestershire as well as Geoff Turbott, the landowner. We look forward to progressing the build, alongside the development of 27 high quality homes.”

Construction work is expected to take around 12 months to complete with the surgery scheduled to open in winter 2026/27.
