Emergency Departments (A&Es) deal with serious injuries or life threatening emergencies.

For example:

  • Severe breathing difficulties
  • Unconsciousness
  • Severe chest pain or stroke
  • Heavy loss of blood
  • Serious head injury/fractures.

In Gloucestershire, the two A&E departments at Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General Hospital are run by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Find out more here.

You can use the NHS website to find other hospitals in your area. You do not have to live in the area to visit an A&E department so if it is more convenient, you can access one in a surrounding county.
